What Are Netflix Profiles?

Netflix allows multiple people in a household to have their own individual profiles under a single subscription. Each profile maintains its own watch history, recommendations, continue-watching list, and settings — so everyone gets a personalized experience without interfering with each other.

Depending on your plan, you can have up to 5 profiles per account. Here's how to manage them effectively.

How to Add a New Profile

  1. Sign in to Netflix and click on the profile icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Manage Profiles.
  3. Click the Add Profile button (the icon with a "+" sign).
  4. Enter a name for the profile.
  5. Choose whether to enable Kids mode, which restricts content to age-appropriate titles.
  6. Click Save.

The new profile is now available from the profile selection screen every time you open Netflix.

How to Edit a Profile

You can customize any profile's name, icon, language, and playback settings:

  1. Go to Manage Profiles from the profile menu.
  2. Click the pencil/edit icon on the profile you want to change.
  3. Update the name, choose a new avatar, or adjust language preferences.
  4. Click Save to apply your changes.

Setting Up a Kids Profile

A Kids profile automatically filters content to shows and movies suitable for children. When enabled:

  • Only titles rated for kids are shown.
  • The profile has a bright, child-friendly interface.
  • Access to the Account Settings page is restricted from the Kids profile itself.

Tip: You can also set a PIN for adult profiles so children can't accidentally switch into them. Go to Account → Profile & Parental Controls → Profile Lock.

How to Delete a Profile

Deleting a profile permanently removes its watch history, ratings, and recommendations. To delete:

  1. Go to Manage Profiles.
  2. Select the pencil icon on the profile you want to remove.
  3. Scroll down and click Delete Profile.
  4. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Note: You cannot delete the primary account profile — at least one profile must always remain active.
